When to Refer

Consider reaching out when patients have:

  • Persistent inflammatory or multisystem symptoms

  • Positive ANA, elevated ESR/CRP, or unclear autoimmune testing

  • Overlapping or difficult-to-classify autoimmune features

  • Persistent symptoms despite standard treatment

  • Rare or complex inflammatory conditions, including autoinflammatory disease, vasculitis, Behçet’s disease, or Still’s disease

  • Questions regarding diagnosis, treatment escalation, or biologic therapy

  • Difficulty accessing timely rheumatology care locally

  • Pediatric-to-adult rheumatology transition needs

We provide evidence-based rheumatology consultation, detailed medical record review, and written recommendations designed to support shared decision-making and ongoing local care.

Expert rheumatology input for complex autoimmune and autoinflammatory cases

We provide detailed physician-to-physician consultation for patients with complex, unclear, or difficult-to-manage autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Through a comprehensive review of medical records, laboratory testing, imaging, and prior specialist evaluations, we deliver evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic guidance designed to support ongoing clinical care.

Each case is personally reviewed by Dr. Jonathan Hausmann, a Harvard-trained, board-certified pediatric and adult rheumatologist with expertise in complex autoimmune and autoinflammatory disease.

Consultations may include:

  • Diagnostic impressions and differential considerations

  • Recommendations for further evaluation or testing

  • Guidance regarding biologic or immunosuppressive therapy

  • Interpretation of complex or unclear autoimmune findings

  • Recommendations for specialty referral or escalation of care when appropriate

  • A structured written report delivered within five business days

Ideal for patients with unclear diagnoses, multisystem inflammatory presentations, refractory symptoms, rare or overlapping syndromes, or difficulty accessing timely subspecialty rheumatology care.

Preliminary Case Discussions

Physicians are also welcome to reach out for brief preliminary case discussions regarding diagnostic questions, autoimmune testing interpretation, treatment considerations, or whether a more comprehensive consultation may be appropriate.
