Our Services

Beyond a Second Opinion™ consultations are designed to give you clarity and confidence in managing your rheumatic condition. All services are delivered virtually through secure video from the comfort of your home.

Beyond a Second Opinion™ Consult

What it is:

  • A comprehensive consultation with our board-certified rheumatologist to review your case in depth and provide an expert opinion that goes beyond what is offered by other services. This service is ideal if you have been diagnosed with an autoimmune or autoinflammatory rheumatic disease and want to confirm the diagnosis, explore alternative treatment options, or gain a deeper understanding of your condition. It’s also useful if you have unexplained symptoms or laboratory results and don’t know where to turn.

What’s Included:

  • Pre-visit Records Review: Our physician will thoroughly review your prior medical records, including clinic notes, lab results, and imaging reports related to your condition. You will complete an intake questionnaire to capture your full health story and your concerns. This background work ensures that your consult is as productive and personalized as possible.

  • Expert Virtual Consultation: You’ll have an in-depth video appointment (typically around 60 minutes) with our rheumatologist. During this consult, the doctor will discuss your medical history and symptoms, ask clarifying questions, and most importantly, listen to your concerns. We will perform a virtual physical examination to visualize any abnormalities that could help with the diagnosis.

  • Written Consultation Report: Within two days of your visit, we will send you a comprehensive written report. This report will summarize your medical history and current issues in clear language, outline our assessment (including any confirmation of diagnosis or potential alternative diagnoses to consider), and provide evidence-based recommendations for next steps. These recommendations may include potential treatments, suggestions for additional tests that could be useful, and educational resources. The report is designed to be shared with your healthcare team.

  • AI-Enhanced Analysis: Behind the scenes, we leverage a private, HIPAA-compliant artificial intelligence (AI) platform to help analyze your medical records and find hidden patterns in your data. We also use an AI-powered medical literature search engine to find similar cases and evidence-based recommendations. .

  • Collaborative Communication: We support—not replace—your care team. With your permission, we’re happy to clarify any part of our report directly with your local physician. Our goal is to offer additional insight—not to take over your care. Every recommendation is framed collaboratively, making it easy for your providers to integrate our findings into your treatment plan.

What We Do Not Do:

  • As a one-time consult service, we do not prescribe medications, order tests, or provide ongoing care. We do not act as your primary rheumatologist and we can’t manage emergencies. Instead, we are an advisory service – we provide knowledge and guidance that you and your regular healthcare team can use to make informed decisions. We also cannot guarantee specific outcomes, but we do promise a thorough and honest assessment grounded in the latest medical evidence.

Lifestyle Medicine Consultation

In addition to the core rheumatology consult, we offer an optional Lifestyle Medicine Consultation for those who want to take a holistic approach to managing their condition. This is a separate one-on-one virtual session with our board-certified Lifestyle Medicine physician, focusing on optimizing your daily health habits to improve your rheumatic disease and overall wellness.

This consultation complements the medical second opinion by addressing questions like: How can I adjust my diet to reduce inflammation? What types of exercise are safe and beneficial for me? How can I manage stress to prevent disease flares?

Key features of the Lifestyle Medicine Consultation include:

  • Personalized Nutrition Guidance: We’ll evaluate your diet and discuss evidence-based nutritional strategies for autoimmune health. Our specialist will help tailor a sustainable eating plan suited to your needs, preferences, and dietary restrictions.

  • Exercise and Physical Activity: Learn what kinds of physical activity are appropriate for your condition and fitness level. We’ll suggest exercises to improve joint function, muscle strength, and fatigue, all customized to you. Whether it’s gentle yoga for flexibility, strength training for bone health, or low-impact cardio for heart health, we’ll create an activity plan that you feel comfortable with.

  • Stress Management and Mind-Body Techniques: Chronic stress can worsen inflammation and trigger symptom flares. We’ll talk about stress reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, breathing exercises, or journaling. We may also discuss mental health and coping strategies, and provide resources for counseling or support groups if needed.

  • Sleep and Recovery: Quality sleep is crucial for immune health and tissue repair. We’ll review your sleep habits and offer tips to improve sleep hygiene, address insomnia, and ensure you are getting restorative rest, which in turn can help manage pain and fatigue.

  • Lifestyle Action Plan: After the consult, you will receive a written summary of the key lifestyle recommendations made. This serves as your personal action plan – a roadmap of small, achievable changes you can implement step by step. We focus on sustainable changes, meeting you where you are. Even minor tweaks in daily routines can add up to significant improvements in how you feel over time.

Who Should Consider the Lifestyle Add-On? Anyone looking for a whole-person approach to complement their medical care. If you believe that medicine works best hand-in-hand with healthy habits, this consult is for you. It’s especially beneficial if you prefer a proactive role in your health – learning what you can do on your own to help control your disease and improve your quality of life.

The Lifestyle Medicine Consultation is optional and meant to enhance your care. You can book it at the same time as your rheumatology second opinion (back-to-back or on a separate day), or decide to add it after your initial consult once you’ve digested your medical report.
